"1. The harp will probably never be a popular
mainstream insturment. "
Most likely true--though let's not forget that the harmonica is an
instrument with great popularity amongst the general public--they
have fond memories of it and fond associations. But they also like
it in small doses, it seems.
............um, i gotta disagree with this negative downplaying of the
popularity of harp in current day instrumentalism, just ain't
true--........LOTS of harp in country music.........when i watch cable t.v.
or watch a movie...LOTS of harp on cartoons, commercials, soundtracks, all
the time, listen to FM radio , XM radio, harp on pop, ( no not hop on
pop, that's a classic of western literature), harp on jazz stations, rock
and roll songs quite often, of course blues and blues rock, folk, alt
etc....keep your ears open, harp music is employed widely all the time!!
why? because it sounds damn cool ( when done right). the harmonica is
TOTALLY a mainstream instrument, it is everywhere in the mainsteam
media...it is highly prevalent in all kinds of present day audio
applications. and by the way, factory, commercially available, out of the
box harmonicas are getting exponentially better by leaps and bounds all of
a sudden so one can naturally expect to hear even more and better harp music
coming out of them as young, naturally musically talented adults out there
start sticking them in their mouths and letting 'er rip with great
sounds....i predict great things in rock and roll harmonica playing for
example . the golden age of amplified rock and roll take the world by storm
harp players is yet to be but coming soon . stay tuned.
