A minor isn't the same as Ab. It can get confusing because minor does mean
some of the notes in the scale are flatted.
A maj: A B C# D E F# G# A
A min: A B C D E F G A--notice it's the same notes as the C scale but it
starts on A. A minor is the relative minor of C
Ab maj: Ab Bb C Db Eb F G
Get a friend to play an A major chord and an A minor chord. You'll hear the
difference immediately. Most of us laypeople think of minor keys as sounding
sad, but the music theory people think that's silly.
