Re: [Harp-L] Re: Half valving for rack playing

Hey groovy guys and groovy chicks ( snapping fingers with real dark sun
glasses on), I have a question and an observation.
Now this is just me and my idiosyncrasies, but with my limited
abilities with playing in anything but 2nd position, I have found that it is
much easier to play harp in a rack in 1st position. This surprised me 'cause I
do just about everything in 2nd. I've been working on some stuff (old and new)
and after playing Sweet Virginia transposed into G with a G harp in a rack,
I thought that I would try and work up some other stuff with rack playin'.
I've done maybe 5 songs total with a rack in my life so I 'aint comfortable
with it, but change is good. (Get to the point Randy) I'm working up some blues
stuff I wrote and I'm trying to play in 2nd and doing all the predictable
bends and so forth but find myself wanting to play in 1st all the time. This is
kinda like that rubbing your hair and pattin' your tummy thing to me I guess.
Sooooo I figure I'll just do what seems natural and play 1st position for a
while. I have two good A harps and I was thinkin' of half valving one of them
to see what that's like for 1st position playing. Can yall hip me to what
I've gotta do? I've asked this before but after living in the 70's like I did
my memory is just about shot..........where was I? ............O yea, what
kind of material can I use for a test to see if It's what I'm looking for, and
where do I stick the wind savers? I've been wanting to play a valved harp for
a while now and this has pushed my lazy buns into action. I'm lookin' to be
able to blow bend more without having to think about it too much, 'cause I'm
just not that good of a guitar player but I do love to play one. I'm gonna be
doing a coffee house thing by myself from time to time so I can use all the
help I can get. If this works out I'll end up buying some valved harps but my
budget at this time................what budget?????
Call yall give me some suggestions??

                                    Randy
