Yea, man. Two great American rock bands. What I like is that, if you listen
to their early recordings, they don't sound "dated". If they were released in
today's market, they would still rock. Not like Duran Duran, which has a
totally "80's" sound.
There is a whole group of "rock harmonica players" - usually they had no
interest in traditional nor the BLSW (BigLittleSonnyWalters) - they just wanted
to rock out.
There was that "Future Looks so Bright I Gotta Get Sunglasses" husband/wife
team that used good harmonica.
I like the bits that Huey Lewis plays in "Heart of Rock and Roll" and some
of his other hits.
Old Stones recordings, Beatles, a few southern rock bands that I can't
remember, Doobie Bros - all used harmonica for Rock and Roll - not finesse, but
rockin'.
Perhaps these recordings actually reached a larger % of the population than
does the blues and specialty (Howard Levy) harmonica projects. I don't know of
anyone that didn't like the harp on these old records.
