[Harp-L] Music Minus One - Beiderbecke

I'm on the e-mailing list of Music Minus One, and outfit that has been around
at least since the now historic 12-inch vinyl records.

The idea is to provide a real band backing group to allow people to learn
standards or notable tunes.

For one thing, you could probably bet the farm that NOBODY (that's nobody)
will be playing Bix Beiderbeck stuff at the next jam.

And the most pressing harp question: Is this stuff playable on harp without
overblows? Try a valved harp, try an XB-40, Hohner Slide Harp a diatonic-tuned
chromatic (just descriptive: there is no such animal) or if all else fails,
try a chromatic.

This way you can learn your harp, learn some technique and master some tunes
and solos that extend beyond the usual Little Walter top 12 riffs.

The blurb explaining the product explains the justification for the Music
Minus One Beiderbecke.

Why care about some dead jazz trumpet player? I think Phil Wiggins once said
during Blues Week at Augusta Heritage Workshops in W.Va. that he got some of
his best harp licks from early jazz trumpet player Bunk Johnson. So you never
an tell where you might meet your next best influence.

Harp on,
Phil Lloyd

MMO CD 3853 - The Further Adventures of Bix Beiderbecke

Along with Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke was one of the first jazz
musicians to become renowned for his improvised solos.

His improvisations were based on the harmonies of the wonderful popular songs
of his time, many of which are now recognized today as standards.

His use of vibrato, a clear and bell-like attack, accurate intonation and an
overall "solid" style make his music a modern revelation to those who haven't
heard him.

Join jazz trumpet master Peter Ecklund in this exploration of Beiderbecke's
unique style.

He demonstrates each of these golden musical standards, then you step in and
perform as soloist with the band!

Includes a newly engraved, authoritative printed solo part, and a compact
disc containing a complete version with soloist, in digitally recorded stereo;
then a digital stereo version of the accompaniment, minus the soloist.
