Re: [Harp-L] HarpGear Double Trouble?
I am a friend of Brian (the amp's builder), so take that into consideration, but I won't lead you astray ... We tested the amp Monday night at a local jam session where the guitars were unusually loud. At 18 watts the amp is remarkably loud, although with the dueling Led Zep guitar gods blaring away on stage, I had to turn the amp to 7 and blow HARD to be heard, but I could be heard. (BTW, the amp produced no feedback until we got it up to about 8)
HOWEVER, once real musicians took the stage and a more reasonable, normal volume was played (still loud but reasonable), the amp was more than adequate as to volume. After playing the amp myself, I stood in the crowd and listened to 3 other harp players play through it and all came out sounding great, with clear articulation and solid punch. I own a 410 and a RI Bassman, and I must say the tone of the DT amp is excellent. It produces a deeper bottom end than you might expect for the 2 8" speakers. If you are playing REAL LOUD R& R, then you may need to mic the amp, though. If you are playing regular rock 'n' blues, Chicago blues, etc. with some sense of dynamics, though, the amp will be just fine and will cut through. It is light and easily transported(which, of course, the 410 and RI are much heavier), is solidly built, and Brian provides tremendous customer support. Perfect for a smaller club.

Subject: [Harp-L] HarpGear Double Trouble?
Anybody play one? Any comments on the amp? I am
still waiting to pull the trigger on light-weight,
midsized amp. It has to compete for onstage volume
with a full band.
My main am is a Bassman Ltd, but for some gigs, it is
too heavy or overkill.
I've also been looking at a Blues Jr., or old
Princeton Reverb/ SF Princeton.
Thanks!
