Re: [Harp-L] Squeeky overdraws

Hi JJ,

The squeek and squeel from OB OD usually comes from the dampened reed ( Like for OD, you are actually getting the note from the blow reed, so the draw reed should be dampened). You can test this out by actually covering that reed with your finger or tape and trying your OB OD, and see if you are still getting any squeeling. You can manipulate this to some degree with your embouchure/technique/etc. And you can change it some by the way you set the reeds up, both their gapping and their shaping, and you can also do some things to stabilize that opposing reed, such as apply beeswax, nail polish, or turbo tape.

Hi Harp-L-ers

What are the reasons for squeeks on overdraws, when sustained. I gap my harps for overblowing reasponse but when the harp I buy has this default I don´t seem to get around it as I don´t know the raeson or reasons behind the problem. I´ve noticed that the way I play the overdraw does have an effect and it´s good practice to try and make squeeky overdraws not sqeek ; still, I want them out of my life.

Thanks and best regards,
