[Harp-L] Re:Sugar Ray Norcia
Went out Saturday to see my friend and endorser, SGR, he had replaced power
tubes so I biased him up. He sounded Tremendous, his style and Kim's are
slightly on the same wave length, Sugar to me keeps getting more original as the
solos continue. He got to try the Cruncher for a few minutes, he blew a few
notes and everyone at Black Eyed Sally's head perked up. Ray said it definitely
is right on, loved the weight. Sat in and did Cloud Cover which is on my
website. I solo'd in first position while he did third, it was fun playing with
Troy Gonyea (?), Neil on drums and Mudcat on bass. You can tell when someone
is getting their stuff off by being able to feel what they are playing, every
time I see SR play he inspires me to keep practicing. I think getting into a
discussion of who is "The Best" blues harp player out there is just plain
subjective, there is a short list of true pros like Kim, SR, Estrin, Primich,
Cotton, so many, yet so few who really fit into the highest echelon of
players.
