just stumbled upon this, from an interview with john cassady, son of neal cassady (of On The Road and Merry Pranksters fame):
I met a blues-harp player in college, an ex-Marine just out of Vietnam named Matt Shaw. He learned blues harp by hiding in the ammo bunker under his fire base near Laos and playing Paul Butterfield's classic "East/West" album over and over.
