[Harp-L] Whodunit?
The popper troll sent me thinking. If I were to post a link to a "lost
Little Walter song" that people decided really did sound authentic, and they
bought my story about how I got the lost song, etc., there would probably be
a lot of interest, praise for the song, Walter's playing, etc. Then, if a
post from Tom Ball shows up, "Sorry, I've been away from the list for a few
days. That sounds like a deleted file from the CD that comes with my book,
"Sourcebook of Little Walter/Big Walter Licks for Blues Harmonica." Someone
must have discovered it there. All at once, Tom's fine playing would no
longer be a lost song from Little Walter. Same music, same harp playing, now
not so important.
This is of course my speculation, and I hope that Tom is not offended at my
using a reference to him, but it seemed like a good "it could happen" story.
But I truly believe that that is what would happen. Extraordinary lost song
from a harp g-d becomes some good playing and that's all. Why is that? Is
the whodunit more important than the music itself?
Peace and music,
Dave
