thanks to all for the help with figuring out this song.  it helped to
know it was playable without OBs, and to hear other players' takes
on it.   after futzing around a bit, i realized that i was stuck because
i was focusing on the part i couldn't figure out, rather than the parts i 
could.  once i got got a handle on the latter, the former start to make
sense, as they all fit together.  

there may be a lesson there for beginners.  when trying to figure out
a new song, find some small part of it that you can play, get it down
pat, and branch out from there.  in this case, i was having trouble with
duane allman's solo, but dickey betts' made sense to me.  and i can
settle for sounding like dickey betts.  :-)
