Re: [Harp-L] Re: new Howard Levy DVD: Out of the Box Vol. 1



I have a copy. There might be a handful of players that will get anything out of it.  It's going to be over the top of most people's head and if you know what he's talking about then you don't need the video.  It's a catch 22.

The playing is good but the DVD is not very well authored. This is not howard's fault... There is no booklet to study from.

It's a nice video how howard playing some cool and complex stuff on one harp. It's not a good learning device for unless your technique is advanced. Oh and the lead sheet is real notation. No tab for thosse that need it.

Get the DVD if you like howard's music but get The Jazz Theory Book by Mark Levine if you want to learn jazz and apply it to your harmonica
