Re: [Harp-L] Vinyl to Computer

Hi Bobby

Yes, such a thing exists. It's the Numark TTUSB, previously sold as the Ion TTUSB. Here's a link to one seller's catalogue (no afiliation) http://www.zzounds.com/item--NUMTTUSB
I've experimented with several ways to get my vinyl digitized, and got one of these a few months ago when my last hifi unit finally gave it up. It sounds good enough as a turntable to place it my listening room "rack", but one thing is that it's TOTALLY manual - no arm return at the end of a side, not even 'cueing', so you want to place it where it's easy to get at from above and accurately lift and place the tonearm. No dust cover - and it's hard to keep the one I've recycle in place since the left side of the TT slopes downward, providing no support.
Has kind of a high-end, industrial strength look in the pictures, but is actually pretty much all plastic and definiteyl NOT a DJ device despite the Numark brand. But it does work and sounds way better and is easier on the records than the Sony PS-LX250H (turntable with built-in preamp) I had been using.
Connect it either through a USB port or use the line-out cables. Has 33 1/3 and 45 rpm speeds and an uncalibrated + or - speed control. You can adjust the tonearm weight to a reasonable degree.
Doesn't use additional drivers on your computer and though you'll see a CD included in the box, all it's got is an out-of-date copy of Audacity on it. Since it's inconvenient to have it permanently near my computer, the way I use it now is to just connect my MicroTrack to the line-outs and let the MT's superior? A-to-D converter do the job.
You may want to leave it hooked up to your computer for a length of time if you plan on a marathon dgitization project. Hope this helps a little.

Cheers,

I have a 500 plus collection of 33 1/3 records. A bunch of them are out of print and never made it to CD. I hear a rumor that there is a turntable you can plug into the computer and download these records. If anyone has any info if this device exists please give me a shout.
Thank you in advance for any information on this alleged product.
