Re: [Harp-L] improving the harmonica (SBS harps)

Hi Ken;
I pulled out my SBS last night after the exchange last week
about them. Right: it's really leaky. I tried re-gapping it, but I think
it's a plate/comb problem. I noticed that the plates were held on with
just a few nails, so when I've got some time I'll put some bolts in it
and see if it's any better. Also noticed that any attempt at an
overblow/draw resulted in nothing but dog-whistles. I paid around $85.00
Australian (thats around $70.00 US) for it when they first came out 12
or 15 years back. If I was Steve Baker, I wouldn't wnat my initials on
the thing, no matter how good an idea it was in theory.
Hope your's and mine were exceptions.
Cheers,
RD

Rick,

I didn't like my SBS's either, mainly because they
seemd so leaky.

I had Bob Meehan customize mine (Low C and Low D),
and they play much better.

They are awkward though, and take some getting
use to... I don't play them that often.

I am very intrigued with the Seydel Soloist Pro-12
that
Rupert Oysler suggested. I'm definitely going to try
one!

Hopefully, Rupert will make it to the Columbus OH
Buckeye harmonica festival in April, and have a good
supply of harps to sell!
