If you play in a bar with poor acoustics, you're better off keeping  
the volume way down. Helps the singer too because they don't have to  
yell to be heard.

Recording and jamming I like the volume where I can sing without a  
mic. The guitarist and I have spent some time with low watt amps to  
get the "turned up turned down" sound.
