My reasons for posting are contained in the last paragraph. Very cool,
indeed:
Performers Announced For 2007 Simply The Blues Festival:
Simply The Blues Blues Festival will be held again for its fourth year on
May 11 and 12 in Ft. Madison, Iowa.
2007 Grammy nominated artist Tab Benoit will be performing on Friday the
11th. Benoit is also nominated for two 2007 Blues Music Awards, not including
past BMA wins and nominations. Other artists performing that night will be Otis
Taylor and his band (an eleven-time BMA nominee and past winner with his
brand of trance Blues). Another highlight will be 91-year-old David âHoneyboyâ
Edwards, a living legend, BMA winner, and one of the oldest living links to
the Blues.
Opening the evening for these acts will be the 2006 Iowa Blues Challenge
winner and 2007 International Blues Challenge semi-finalist Bad Luck City and
both nights will start with a âSimply The Bluesâ staple, The Second Skinny
Blues Band.
On the 12th Grammy-nominated and the very energetic Hamilton Loomis will be
performing on the main stage. Hamilton, who received a Grammy nomination for â
Best Contemporary Album of The Yearâ is a performer you will not forget.
Along with Hamilton will be Michael Powers, a 2007 BMA-nominated artist that
Billboard Magazine says, âMore than anyone else, anywhere, Powers represents the
future of the Blues.â Also performing will be Eric Lindell, a 2007 BMA
nominee for âBest New Artist Debut.â Lindell is an Alligator recording artist who
says his claim to fame this last year has been the playing of one of his
songs on the TV show Boston Legal while William Shatner danced to it, in drag.
Other bands playing on the 12th include: Mississippi Heat, a great
Chicago-based Blues band; The Blues Foundationâs 2007 International Blues Challenge
winner The Sean Carney Band; and Christian Blues artist and past favorite guest
of Victory Faith church in Fort Madison, Jimmie Bratcher. Bratcher will also
be performing at Victory Faith Church on Sunday the 13th.
Between the main stage acts, in The Scottâs Company Blues Tent, there will
be live performances as well. On Friday the 11th Hal Reed and Daniel Burnside
will be performing. Bad Luck City will be jamming with them later in the
evening. On Saturday the 12th the 2006 Iowa Blues Challenge winners and The Blues
Foundationâs International Blues Challenge top ten finalists The Juke Joint
Sinners will also be performing in The Scottâs Blues Tent.
Again this year there will be free activities for the public. On Saturday
the 12th at 10:00 a.m. they will host another free beginner harmonica workshop
and will give away free Hohner harmonicas to the first 50 children. More News
from Simply The Blues coming very soon.
