[Harp-L] Re: Playing harmonica in a rack?

No, I'm not a serious harp player (yet!) but I can
tell you that I have a rack as my studio amp that can
give me almost any sound I'm looking for which I can't
do with my Supro or my Fender that I use when I
venture out with a harp. I get the sound I want at
almost any volume level I want at home with a London
Power Studio Amp. Look it up. It's real. I have a
Power Regulator, a Tube DI unit, a Parametric
Equalizer, and a Compressor before the amp. At the
amp, I can dial in any distortion level I want at any
volume level I want(up to the amp's capability). If I
choose, I can then direct the output to an attenuator
and then to another (post distortion) parametric
equalizer, and a bass enhancer/treble exciter/noise
reduction unit. I can also just go to those units via
the amps effects loop. I can then go to any speaker
or combination of speakers you can bring to the party.
These tools are EXTREMELY powerful in their
versatility and ability. They far surpass anything I
can do with my vintage amps. I could just as well
take this set up to a gig but it's not nearly as
portable. But it's what I use at home because it's so
much fun to tinker with and enjoy what I'm trying to
achieve. It's not that a rack unit can do what a
vintage amp can do, it can do far more. But it's not
very convenient to lug it around which defeats one of
the advantages of having a small portable little
instrument called the harmonica which is the most
expressive musical instrument short of the human
voice. And for that, I don't need any equipment at
all except what God gave me.
