Thanks to all who replied. This is a general reply and will be my last post on the subject since it is not really harp related.
I am REALLY trying to rid myself on one of my last remaining prejudices. In reading your responses, I wonder if the policemen that I encounter somehow "pick-up" on my apprehension and misinterpret it.
I also think that my problems have a lot to do with the area I live in. One poster wrote that it's no longer 1967. When I examine my local area, I think we are stuck in the late 1950's. The bigoted values are still the same (I can even see this as a straight, white man). Maybe the police must act like the police did in the late 1950's in order to police a town that's stuck in the 1950's?
I guess the major problem I have is the attitude that I perceive that officers have when they deal with me. Even once I display that I am cooperative, they are often rude and arrogant in my experiences. I realize that their lives are in the line, but when I am dealing with them peacefully, why do they want to push buttons to make me want to react aggressively?
Thanks again for the replies. I do my best to respect the officers of the law. I am working on losing my prejudice here.
Will
