[Harp-L] Re: cold sores
First and foremost before taking any medication, check with your PCP for any
allergic reactions this medication may cause with existing meds you are on,
or just in general. Herpes (cold sores) are viral and need to be treated
internally with medication. The old standard was Acyclovir, which could take up
to 10 days to work. If you are someone like myself who has ever experienced a
sore on the lip, it always comes back to the same spot, whether you go 2- 3
years before having another one. I can actually feel it going to the gland in
my throat if not caught in time. The most effective medication is Valtrex,
500mg, twice a day. My dermatologist will always write me two scripts, one for
current and one for as soon as even think it is coming about. High stress can
usually cause an outbreak, as can many other reasons. I have been fortunate
not to get one in many years, although I still keep my 10 pills of Valtrex
handy for that occasion. You can use topical things like Herpicet or any topical
to dry it up as your internal meds are handling the virus. There is no cure,
once you have herpes in an area, it is always laying dormant, hence the new
information that a person can catch genital herpes even if no sore is
visible. Here's another staggering statistic, one out of every 4 women have genital
herpes. So fellows, and ladies, as men can also be carriers, take precautions
which should be standard practice in this day and age. My knowledge comes
from my own research and working in the field of addiction and having great
doctor's knowledge at my fingertips. If you have been playing a harp while you
have an outbreak, as funky as it sounds, I would use a 10% bleach to water
solution on it and use a Q tip to get inside the holes. Why take a chance of a
relapse.
On another note, just listened to Kim Fields, Great Tone.
