[Harp-L] Re: JJ Milteau plays "What a wonderful world"
Thanks to Joe Spiers for the advice to close my ears down and ignore
fairly significant problems in an otherwise nice performance. I'll
try that next time I go to a middle-school violin recital and hear
similar intonation problems (though the violin doesn't suffer from
the timbre issues in terms of note chocie).
But, maybe, just maybe the level of acceptable intonation is
different between a 13-year old student and a professional musician
with decades of experience. And maybe, just maybe Milteau wouldn't
have had any of those issues if he had used another technique like,
say, playing the song on a Melody Maker™ tuning, which would
eliminate both the intonation and the timbre problems in the
performance, rather than go the blunt force "it must work in standard
tuning" approach. Sometimes I think maybe it's just me, but since
someone else pointed it out first, well, maybe not.
