Cool SPAH. Good tongue switching seminar with the amazing James Conway,
Stan Harper, and the always entertaining Paul Davies. Excellent blues
showcase with Jason Ricci asking insightful questions of the players. He
really got them to talk about what they were doing musically. I felt like I
was watching a diatonic harmonica version of "Inside the Actor's Studio".
only better. Decided I really like the Harp Master at $16. Teach-in's were
fantastic with loads of pros dispensing a lot of help. Special thanks to
Buzz Krantz and Bruce Kurnow for assistance with my playing. At Warren
Bee's breakfast confab, I learned a lot about my fellow players and a little
about myself. Jimi Lee's 1-6-2-5 jam song in the hallway Friday afternoon
was a lot of fun. Gained a new appreciation for Charlie M's playing and
singing after finally seeing this real pro perform in person. James
Conway's set was about as high energy and electrifying as any I have seen.
Bruce Kurnow can sure make that harp talk. Joe Filisko's mob was so cool
with the different styles, arrangements, and instrumentations. Grant
Dermody's playing knocked me out - I couldn't run fast enough to the SPAH
Store to pick up one of his CDs. Miller family brought a whole different
style which I loved. Great seeing some old friends (or, I should say,
persons with whom I was previously acquainted) and making some new ones.
And the Blues Jams....ah, the Blues Jams!
These are just some of the highlights. Thanks to everyone for making it
such a great time. I had a blast. When's the next one?
