[Harp-L] SPAH photos

Seeing publicity on SPAH in Milwaukee and having played harmonicas 65
years ago, my curiosity led me into reading this Digest. Suddenly it's
like a whole 'nother world. You guys have names for all the things I
used to do with my tongue and lips, and then some. You even went so far
as to number the holes so you could describe how they work, and the
subtle differences between them. A clever idea.
In message #4 of Issue 49, Marc Molina suggested to Randy Singer that
someone set up a flickr group to post members' photos and make them
accessible. Recently I've had considerable success posting my sporting
event photos on my friend Bill's website. Since Bill is an experienced
webmaster, I emailed him and asked whether he would be interested in
participating. Although he declined, his answer is worth your attention.
"Interesting. Not something I'd want to get into (ie. Webmastering /
photo guru); not enough time to take on more at this point. But it
sounds like [Marc] might be on the right track regarding posting photos
for all the group to see. He mentions flickr.com - that may be what they
would want to do. Or something like smugmug.com for posting photos. I
don't know too much about flickr, but smugmug I do. There is a small fee
for the year to house photos at smugmug, but they also offer a printing
service as well. That's what I would recommend to them."
It seems to me, someone in the club should just do it, and fast. First
get the approval of club management, then set it up and either control
or monitor it so it doesn't get abused. Do it on a trial basis
initially, then make changes as required. I know from experience that
interest in the photographs will wane in a few days.
