Replacing the tube in my ART tube preamp made a very noticeable improvement in sound when I ran a hi-impedance bullet mic (Thunderharp element) into preamp and then into PA.
I had carefully dissembled the unit and took out the Chinese 12AX7 replacing it with a GE 5-Star triple mica 5751, lower gain similar to 12AT7. Any number of tubes could be used to swap with a change in sound.
This probably voids warranty- if that is a concern...
The tube preamp, however, is a great, affordable way to play a high or low impedance mic into a PA to simulate a tube amps "warmth" and allow the player to adjust controls on the unit and have some control by adjusting gain, output level, etc.
The tube upgrade is a great idea and I am glad I have the unit.

I use the Presonus TubePre, another low-cost tube preamp, and after
replacing the cheap no-name 12AX7 tube with a JJ Tesla I am very happy
with
it. I use it for all kinds of recording chores; mostly warming up
vocal and
instrument mics. I don't use it as a DI into the board while
performing,
however. I prefer to mic my Champ.
