Just knowing what position to play it in isn't good enough.
 
My advice - understand the chord progression to where it doesn't seem  pretty 
nuts. Once you've got this grounding, you may find a few different  positions 
to play, each with their own set of advantages/disadvantages.
 
"Summertime" can be super simplified down to a truncated quick change blues  
progression in a minor key with a I-iv-ii-V turnaround in the relative  major 
key.
