Here's another good one-- notify all banks issuing the cards you plan to use. Use it once overseas (even Canada) and they will probably freeze the card.
I had it happen with an airline miles card and I flew on that same airline!

Good point MN - Smo-Jo just make sure before you leave that you know the
PIN code associated with all of your cards in case one doesn't work,
etc. Since they often aren't used for cash at ATMs (I'm talking about
credit cards here), you may not remember the pin or even have ever set
one. Get that straight and know those pins before you go.
