RE: [Harp-L] On sticking chromatic slides
I would point out that the inhaled air, whilst cooler than body temp., has
the advantage of being nowhere near as moisture-laden as the warmer exhaled
air, and is itself somewhat warmed up by the fact that it passes through
your hands and over the parts of the warmed-up harp.
Steve
Just thinking about it again, the amount of inhaled air actually passing
over the reeds/valves is probably pretty small, and you're probably
recirculating a lot of air that's already warm as it's always in the
vicinity of the harp/your body. It's a fallacy to think that you're sucking
in tons of cold air from the environment every time you play a draw note.
And, of course, your hands on the harp's covers are having a considerable
warming effect. Just my two-and-fourpence, as they say.
