Mike,
So far, nobody has offered suggestions for getting that great sound at
lower volume. I have no experience with attenuators, but I gather
that's what they're about. As an alternative, some different tubes
might help: I took the 5U4 out of a SJ410, replaced it with a 5R4, re-
set bias, have AU AU 5751 left to right. To my ears (and that's the
big caveat!), it sounds great at somewhat lower volume (not like an
attenuator, I'm sure). Others may have suggestions along these
lines. --jk
