[Harp-L] Re: Harp preparation for studio recording?

  I did a demo cd some time ago and wasn't really happy with how it came out.  Just finished a 'real' cd project and am much happier with the output.  "Advice" based on my experience (mileage will vary for other users):
   
  1. What sounds good on stage isn't necessarily the same setup for the studio. When you first set up in the studio record something either alone or with the band to cover the range of what you might do. Stop and listen just to your part. Repeat and adjust with the engineer till it sounds right to you.   
   
  2. Being prepared ahead of time is an excellent idea!  But playing in a studio can be a compressed, unusual and stressful experience at times.  Think about the best place you ever played your whole heart and soul out. Your closet, a beach in Mexico, in front of adoring fans.... keep that picture in your head when you practice and stay there when you're in the studio.
   
  3. Have fun, it's a cool thing to do!

Also - I tend to like different harmonica mfgs. and models depending on the key of the song I'm playing to - is that weird?
