Re: [Harp-L] Audix Fireball (V) vs Blues Blaster
I'd think a more plausible reason for identical models of vintage amps
having different sounds would be the definition of vintage. Even
stretching vintage to include 60's amplifiers all of these amps are now
approaching at least 50 years old. Factor in that a lot of the
preferred harmonica amps were relatively inexpensive models like the
Kalamazoos and it's not much of a jump to figure that component values
will have drifted. Even with relatively expensive amplifiers like the
Fenders the state of the are regarding critical parts like capacitors
and resistors has changed considerably. I'd imagine that when these
amplifiers were new they were more similarly voiced than they are now.
Repairs and replaced speakers would also be a reason the amplifiers
tonal characteristics have drifted. Even aged speakers would make a
difference. fjm
