Jim,

May I suggest you take your rig down to your local music store and do  
A/B tests or find someone in your area or just buy one and check it  
out.  Your ears need to be the final judge.  IMHO Reading other  
people's words about the various gear is informative but ultimately  
is like trying to explain the color red without showing it.  You can  
say it occupies a certain band on the visible light spectrum, you can  
say that it is known to evoke certain response from viewers, you can  
say that all really smart people dress in red.  But until you see the  
color and see it in context, the words are essentially meaningless.   
Only you know what you like and what sound you're trying to get.
