[Harp-L] Quick Report on Bonfiglio's Grand Canyon Seminar

Just back from Bonfiglio's Grand Canyon Seminar, some quick highlights:

- Robert was gracious as always with his knowledge and patience, passing on many valuable techniques and approaches to mastering the chromatic. I especially enjoyed his coverage of various kinds of articulation, tongue blocking, and corner switching. He presented a ton of great information.

- This was my second Bonfiglio seminar and while there was a fair amount of overlap from the first, it was never boring and I was better prepared to absorb the lessons the second time around. Before attending the first seminar last summer, I was totally self-taught on this instrument. Funny thing, it turns out there were a number of things that never occurred to me about my instrument and the many ways it can be played ;-).

- There was also a full day with Rob Paparozzi as instructor - totally inspiring!

- It's been a while since my last visit to the grand canyon and this was a spectacular week to be there. The weather was fantastic and Penny and I got to see about 25 california condors in flight (at the same time) over the canyon on our last day. Amazing.

- There were two evening classical concerts featuring some really great musicians (including Robert and his wife Clare Hoffman on flute) -- quite an eclectic and refreshing program and the level of musicianship was astounding.

- There were two evening harmonica jams, always big fun.

- Bonfiglio's birthday bash on wednesday night was a real kick, with many musical highlights including Rob Paparozzi's super-fine playing and singing. His chromatic playing continues to amaze me (not too shabby on the diatonic either ;-). Of course the real highlight for me was a guest appearance by vocalist Penny Hanna ;-).

- Perhaps most importantly, got to meet some wonderful players and fellow students of the chromatic, great bunch of folks...

Thanks, Robert, for putting together another fantastic seminar!!!!

- Slim.
