If you are using a Shure stick mic i.e. 545, 533 etc. try 12ay7s in the pre-amp slots .
They work great in my Pro Jr. Also don't forget you can mix and match the pre-amp tubes til you get what you want. Just remember THESE CAN HOLD A LETHAL AMOUNT OF VOLTAGE even after the amp has been off for a while. Be safe.
