[Harp-L] re: Jazz Harp by RH
One of the things that still impresses me every time I go back to
that book (which is often, but probably not as often as I should) is
the breadth of what is included. In terms of styles we go from the
'Cats to Stevie to Miles to avant-garde and much more. That's pretty
impressive and gives you a great foundation to start focusing on what
styles you want to play. In terms of technique, it covers a huge
area in both chromatic and diatonic: tongue-switching, bends,
overblows, slide-punches, alternative tunings just to name some.
Richard's use-everything-including-the-kitchen-sink approach has been
a huge influence on the development of my playing, that's for sure.
Thanks for reminding me to go practice some more "...Nobska", Paul.
Nothing fancy in that piece at all, but a great way of learning
control and precision throughout.
