[Harp-L] Cyril Davies

Now the H2006 festival is over there is a bit of time to do more work
on an important project - the Cyril Davies web site started by Todd
Allen. Few of the younger UK players realise what he did.

Most of the basic site is now up but we have lots more period images
to add and more contributions from players and blues fans of the time.
If you remember how the first amplified blues harp came to be heard
from a UK band in the early 1960s, please add your memories to the
site.

Cyril Davies (harmonica) and Alexis Korner (guitar) did the spadework
and laid the foundations for the young guns in the mid 60s blues boom
who took off from the clubs they had helped to establish.

It is a great story which straddles the growth of trad jazz, skiffle,
country blues and Chicago blues in the UK, after World War Two,
fuelled by imported blues 78s and visiting US blues players.

Listen to Country Line Special and take a trip back down Memory Lane.
Remember what it sounded like when it burst out of your transistor
radio in 1964 to become the first successful blues harp record in the
UK.

Send us your memories and help us to cover this important period as
well as we can.
