Re: [Harp-L] Best shows ever seen (heard?) long, some harp

Man... reading that brought back a memory, Tom, talk about feeling old. Lazy Bill Lucas... Rochester, Minnesota community college... I was just weeks into a job as a staff photographer for the daily newspaper and learning on the job because I kind over overstated my qualifications (though I did attend Brooks Institute out there where you live, for awhile).... anyway, as I digress..... Maybe 25 people at this musical experience.. Lazy Bill and a couple of white guys... I had never heard live blues.. (Remember, I'm growing up along the Iowa/Minnesota border in the 50s) .. I was so affected by the music... Plus I got a great picture of Lazy Bill Lucas...
Harp content: I started playing harp within a couple of years.. actually, I was fooling around with a harmonica and it was many more years before I figured out what harp was.

1970 Ann Arbor Blues Festival. I was 19. Hitchhiked there and back by myself from Santa Monica CA (which took a week each way.) Three days and nights of blues.Â
Â
Roosevelt Sykes, Bukka White, Mighty Joe Young, Jimmy Dawkins, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Hound Dog Taylor, Lazy Bill Lucas, Fred McDowell, Juke Boy Bonner, Luther Allison, Albert King, Robert Pete Williams, Johnny Shines, Big Walter Horton, Sunnyland Slim, Johnny Young, Dave Alexander, Big Joe Turner, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Bobby "Blue" Bland, John Jackson, Papa Lightfoot, Little Brother Montgomery, Carey Bell, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Mance Lipscomb, Little Joe Blue, Lowell Fulson, Big Mama Thornton, Little Junior Parker and Son House.Â
Â
(And nope, I didn't recall all those names from memory -- I still have the program. I hitchhiked home with it -- it's got Boone's Farm Apple Wine stains all over it. It's one of the two souvenirs I came home with... the other of which was easily cured with Penicillin.)Â
