If you want the other end of the price continuum may I recommend the  
Carvin G 212. It has 2 cheap Celestion 12 inch speakers, open back,  
birch plywood (really!) light, and costs a massive $220.00. I couldn't  
 build my own enclosure for that price. Sounds good, well buit, lots  
of bass, light weight. Put a 40 watt head on that puppy and you have  
plenty of power for anything short of stadium gigs.

I know... 2X12 cabs aren't hip. We're supposed to have 10 inch  
speakers but I like 12s just fine.
