MIDI is not about sound per se--it's a protocol for communication between intelligent devices, like a computer and a synthesizer, and the communication is at the level of commands like "Note on" and "note off". In other words, MIDI does not transmit or modify audio directly. So MIDI shouldn't have any effect at all on the sound of your gear.
