I disagree. If you write a definitive statement, it should be taken
as such. Otherwise, add a caveat. Moreover, some things are
actually true and not an opinion. That the harmonica is a free-reed
musical instrument is a fact, not an opinion. That the Marine Band
is the best harmonica is an opinion. Communication is much more
effective when people make these things clear rather than the
opposite. That way it was clear what jazzmaan meant: he was trying
to make a definitive statement, not one of opinion. If that hadn't
been his intent, then he would have said so.
