Re: [Harp-L] Big River harmonicas
I used nothing but Marine Band harps for decades, then switched to big
rivers in '98. they did me well for several years, until I got my first
custom harp. Now the BR's seem draggy to me. I use only customs now and
still can't believe the vast difference in playability. Plus, I'm actually
saving money, as the customs rarely need fixing.

Subject: [Harp-L] Big River harmonicas
I must put in my own two cents worth about Big River harmonicas. I was a
Marine Band die hard for years but, quality seemed to drop off. I get a
price
on my Hohners second to none yet having blow outs during gigs is
frustrating.
I found after experimenting with the other Hohner diatonics that Big River
was
a satisfactory instrument. I pay 9 dollars a piece for them and can shuck
em
like an old coat if they go bad(I usually give them to my grandkids). My
band
(The Mudcats) split up last Fall and have been jamming around with all
kinds
of groups and am about ready to forget using my amp as I am finding the
P.A. A
truer representation of the Harp sound. I have found that most bands sound
men
can get monitor eq and volume levels to suit me rather quickly without
holding
up the show. I'm curious as to other readers reactions.
