[Harp-L] Re: Shure 545 in a bullet shell
Hi, Dave -
I can't speak for the 545 directly. The easiest thing is to try it.
If your PA only has XLR inputs the impedance will be low, and that
means your mic has to play into a much bigger load - it will make
sound but it could rob it of much of its tone. This is EXACTLY the
same issue as an external volume control with the wrong value pot.
The low input impedance of most PA's is about 50K ohms - pretty low.
You would be far better off to connect to it through an impedance
matching transformer. They're readily available and cheap. If your PA
has 1/4" jack inputs they should be higher impedance and may just
work fine for you.

Do any of you ever use this mic straight into the PA, and if so do you
rewire it to low impedance or is it okay to keep it on HiZ straight
into the
board?
I may wire an impedance selection switch onto this baby anyway but
I'd love
to get feedback on how others use this mic through the PA.
