RE: [Harp-L] Taylor Hicks a Rebirth of Wonder

I've been watching AI only because of Taylor. In
fact, I recorded the shows and then would go back and
only watch the Taylor parts. It wasn't until I heard
that he played harp and heard the clip that I was
impressed.

I will buy his cd, and I will enjoy what little harp
content it may contain.

I think he will have a small impact on the harp scene.
No where near what "the rock player we do not speak
of" did for my generation. And I don't think, at
least while he's under AI contract, the harp playing
will be anything beyond the cliched use of the
insturment we can find in other pop songs.

My proof is that Taylor's single (both finalists were
given a song they had to perform from the people at
AI) stinks. Before he even won, the powers that be
took him from being Taylor to being American Idol
Taylor Hicks. The song was nowhere near as "Taylor"
or entertaining as the other tunes he performed. They
are taking a niche musician with lots of talent (I
would love his singing voice!) and are trying to make
him pop. His harp playing will only be used as a
"gimmick" of sorts :(

They did the same thing with the girl. The song was
absolute garbage. It wasn't even in her vocal range
and the melody was very weak. Plus she was sharp
almost the whole tune!

Taylor isn't as cookie-cutter as some of the other
winners. He is much less pop then even the r&b singer
who won a couple of years back and the country singer
from last year. For music's sake they should let him
be Taylor. Sadly, they'll try to change him.

Look how they ruined Bo Bice. They took him from
being a Skynryd time rocker and made him Clay Aiken
with a beard.

Yuck.
