Did the volume knob make no difference in increasing or decreasing the buzz?  Could be the power transformer and 35 bucks will get you a decent one.  Old filter caps can cause big hum by not filtering out the DC ripple.   I once fixed a Bassman 20 that had big buzz and hum, but the problem was a thin layer of rust throughout the chassis.  Used the wire wheel, put the parts back in and done.
Hope that gives you  some insight when you take it to the tech because some can sham ya.  It's a great sounding little amp with nice drive.
