[Harp-L] Harmonicarama 2006

Doug:

I would like your permission to post the attached
announcement on harp-l. I have included a status report and
some background information about this program which a
friend of mine, from my Bridgeport CT days, launched last
November at the Suncoast Dixieland Jazz Festival. It wasn't
actually part of the Clearwater festival, but it was held at
one of the hotel venues and drew quite a crowd nevertheless.
This year, at the Great Connecticut Traditional Jazz
Festival, Harmonicarama is an integrated part of the
program.

I have attached the announcement and the application for
your review. Current status is as follows:
1. Announcement to all SPAH clubs in the northeast mailed
last Friday, March 24th.

2. I visited with CT JAZZ Festival Director Natalie
Lindstrom (Chester, CT) last Thursday the 23rd and toured
the Sunrise Resort site in Moodus. It will work fine. We
have 3 hours on one stage, with the final performance at
7:45 PM Saturday, July 29. Each rhythm section will consist
of a bass, piano, and drums. If we can muster up some
support or sponsorship before the event, I might be able to
add a guitar. But since the harmonica will lead, the
three-piece section will do fine.

3. I will be contacting Roger Bale, SPAH Editor, on Monday
re: a PR piece for Harmonica Happenings. The deadline is
April 15th.

4. I am sending the announcement to A J Fedor, Slidemeister
guru, for his review and approval for posting thereon. I
will do the same for the harp-l site.

5. So far I have one judge, but I am sure I can bring
additional good harmonica players into the program to be
judges. I will be starting my effort in this regard in the
next week or two. For example, Chris Bauer has suggested I
ask Charles Spranklin. I have a plan.

I would like to publish this announcement on harp-l, and I
will include a preamble about how well it turned out in
CLearwater, Fl at the Suncoast Dixieland Jazz Festival last
November. But I did not want to do so if you had any
objections.

The Connecticut Jazz Festival director was at Clearwater and
said she would like to see it at her festival this July, so
I ended up as "da man"!

The announcement itself has a bit more history and
description of the program.

Regards,

John Mooney
