[Harp-L] Salli & Gabe Butterfield
To all concerned:
This is Salli Squitieri and Gabriel Butterfield-son of Paul Butterfield
writing.
After speaking with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and having a clear
understanding that nominees are inducted based on a panel comprised of
approximately 900 voters. This panel of voters is comprised of approximately
200-300 living inductees, and the balance comprised of professionals
involved in various aspects of the music industries including professors,
record labels, critics, historians etc.
The bottom line as expressed by many in the industry is people forget and
many who were involved with Paul have passed. Further, a younger generation
simply does not know. Hence is a matter of keeping Paul in the faces of all
those fans that do make a difference, record labels, producers, museums,
living inductees, magazines, assorted organizations and societies.
Further, this on-line petition, as well as hard copy petitions that are
circulating and assorted letters and articles will be presented to the panel
of voters to demonstrate the continued popularity and viable reasons for
Paul Butterfield?s recognition into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Radio Stations, Blues Societies, Numerous Writers, Paul?s Colleagues,
assorted Performers, various Yahoo Groups and more have joined forces with
Gabriel & I and the Paul Butterfield Fund and Society (PBFS) not only with
the petition, but in a multitude of capacities to demonstrate the wonderment
on a global basis as to how it is that Paul has yet to be recognized by the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
To name a few we have contacted The Blues Foundation, The Blues Hall of
Fame, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Blues Societies on a global basis?
For the few of you who are in doubt of the effectiveness of a petition and
have criticized a few individuals who have posted it, it is only one segment
of the campaign for Paul?s recognition. However, when any panel views a
petition of this nature it demonstrates the concerns of fans and reminds
those responsible for decision making that 1) Paul has not been forgotten
and 2) that they ?the voters are being watched.
A petition of this nature also educates those who simply are unaware of Paul
Butterfield?s pinnacle role in the Blues revival and music making history in
general.
Obviously, performers who worked with Paul do not feel that the petition is
without merit, nor do record companies or professionals in the industry, or
they would not have placed their names on the petition. I believe the
petition speaks for itself along with the amount of names rapidly
accumulating on it.
So, for those who have scorned the idea of this petition, instead of
criticizing those involved in making a difference jump aboard, and be heard
in a positive fashion, instead of standing back and doing nothing at all.
We commend the efforts of the many that have sent this petition information
out and thank the countless individuals who have sent such wonderful e-mails
and heartfelt words on Paul.
