Fwd: [Harp-L] Hohner MS harps

MS harps have longer reeds than Hohner handmades, and that may have
something to do with any perceived difference.

Paul deLay at one time played Big Rivers as his diatonic of choice -
they were low priced and of suffuiciently good quality in his
estimation. That was a few years ago and he may have changed.

I recall at one point in the 1990s when Marine Band quality was not
at its most consistent, Kim Wilson was using Bog Rivers as well.
Nowadays he uses Filisko Marine Bands.

I use both types and many others besides. There have been times when
I have perceived a greater delicacy in response from handmade
Hohners, but often it makes no difference provided the instrument is
airtight and the reeds are properly set up.

Just curious, does anyone use these professionally (or semi-
professionally) as their main gigging harps? I've got a couple of
Pro Harps and one Big River, the rest of my (small) ensemble consists
of Special 20s and Marine Bands. The reason I ask is that I find the
MS harps to be stiffer and less responsive than the others, and I was
wondering if it was just me or if that's something inherent in the MS
reed plates.
