RE: [Harp-L] Rockford Files...(Tommy Morgan, Harmonica)

Thanks for the link. I struggled to remember the tune before this.
I like "sloppy" too. This is a great solo.
I've considered also, the source of the original bad critiques from this apparent flame bomb of a subject, and I believe there was dissatisfaction with head shakes in the past.

Now, having grown up in the time this show was being broadcast in America, I can say it was inspiring to me as a neophyte harp player. However, what really inspired me more, was the draw head shake to a draw bent shake that was used as a hook in the Sanford and Son theme. Quincy Jones probably directed that I would suppose.

But years passed, and I was asked by another harp player how I got my headshake to bend - which immediately allowed me to give credit to the Sandford theme. It must have been one of my earliest stolen licks. =)

So, I am sure that the Rockford Files theme (aka. Tommy Morgan's "sloppy, thin toned" diatonic solo) has probably inspired so many more harmonica players, than the critics of this solo have to this day. I also realize though, that the critics of the work, do so inspire me in this day... in more ways than I figured perhaps, but musically, yes.

We all play the harp - and those who are not afficiandos of a certain modality, tone, style or gendre should be free to enjoy whatever they please. I certainly find those who've heard me play, either like or dislike my playing. Yet, I feel that I still get the job done. Tommy Morgan certainly does. That's obvious to me. =)
