[Harp-L] Mystery amp question and sound clip
Hi guys,
I just picked up yet another amp last weekend at a yard sale for $20
(actually a buddy called me up because he saw it and thought I'd want
it for that , glad I did). Anyway, no manufacturer, the speaker is a
1957 (or 47 but I think 57) Quam. Anybody seen something like this?
Just curious. I got it with a Supro steel but I don't think it's a
Valco product.
I think it sounds pretty cool as a harp amp. two old octal preamps,
one 6v6 and a 5Y3. Since I'm on spring break from school and just
started messing around with Audacity free software I thought I'd
stick up a little example of how it sounds using an old brown shure
with a crystal element (sitting on top of amp). The playing is of
course just me messing around, at least one flub I should have edited
out if I knew how to do it, intro to an old Cotton tune and the rest
is just some random little licks. No effects used and no animals
harmed during the recording although my dog did go into another room.
Actually, the recording itself came out OK with just an SM58 some
distance away from the amp since I wasn't using a mixer. The
speaker is definitely going out, you might hear some of that in the
sound clip. And the tubes, caps, etc are all original or at least
pretty old , I didn't swap anything out yet.

I'll leave this up for a couple of weeks as it takes up a fair amount
of my limited webspace.
