RE: [Harp-L] Help please
I think this is second position--I know the song, and this seems to be the
beginning of the chorus. Let's take it from the verse, "I don't want your
lonely mansion."
That would be 4 draw to 3 draw, then a couple of whole step bends on hole
three, back to hole 4, followed by the next line, "With a tear in every
room."
That line requires an overblow on the word "a", as the tune is in a major
key and second position is dominant, or the major scale with a lowered
seventh degree (oh heck, it's that blues mode you get from inhaling
harmonica).
In first position, you would play the line you wrote in tab starting on blow
7, then going to draw 6, then blow 6, then 7 blow again.
So that's C, and the other key that I think you were asking about is G.
Straight harp makes more sense on this tune tho, as it is very major
scale--like the phrase "With a tear in every room", draw 6, draw 7, blow 7,
draw 6 etc.
Keep playin',
Gary

Now, my question is, using a C - harp what key am I playing in ?"
Ed,
Playing out the melody, I finally get to the root note at the end, and
it turns out to be a 4 blow (er..exhale). Thus you are in 1st
position. 4 blow = C on a C harp, i.e. you are in the key of C. There
may be a different way of doing it, but it is clear to my ear that this
ends on the root (as do most songs).
