Back in '72 I had the great luck of being on the stage crew for a J. Geils
show.  I had the even greater luck of talking with Magic Dick after the show
for about twenty minutes which was very generous.  One of the points he made
was that he was a tongue blocker and I should be too.  And tongue blocking
was all he used.  Another point that he emphatically made was that the J.
Geils Band was NOT a blues band, much to my chagrin.  Quite frankly, I
thought the first three albums were blues albums and typified what a
contemporary blues band should sound like.  They were energetic and TIGHT,
not necessarily polished.  But after that show I stopped going to see them
and I didn't bother to buy the live album.  Dan Axt
