RE: [Harp-L] One man band for recording and gigging
The only thing I've found is Garage Band for the MAC, and unfortunately not
for the PC. I'm about to buy a MAC Mini soon because I want that Garage
Band, since I can't put together a real band. :-) That's going to be a
blast.
Based on something Richard Hunter mentioned, I recently bought a Zoom PS04
digital recorder. It includes bass and drums, but not guitar. I should
have it in a couple of days and I can let you know then how it helps. But I
want to do the same thing as you, Steve. NOTE: The only thing I don't like
about the PS04 at this time is that the SmartMedia cards it uses are fairly
difficult to get. It appears that it's a relatively dead technology so that
bites. But I'll hoard a few 128mb ones as I can get them and that should be
okay. But for $200 for the unit, it's a good deal. I suspect that Zoom
will soon release a new version using a different kind of storage media.
Until I get the MAC, I'll rely on the Zoom and use Audacity (an open source
program) on a spare PC. And I might just have to resort to playing the
guitar (not very well) on some recordings.

Is there any equipment, or if PC based, any hardware and software, that
would allow me to obtain adjustable pre-set backing tracks, that you can
change the key and tempo, so that I can record it together with my harp and
vocals in digital format? I would also like to use these backing tracks to
perform my music live. Would I need different equipment for 1)recording and
2)playing live?
